Portsmouth are to stay in administration after the Football League decided not to return their golden share in the competition, which would have allowed the takeover by Balram Chainrai to go ahead. The league is not satisfied on four items, although it is not clear what those are at this stage. The club will not suffer any points deductions, but need to come out of administration by the end of the season or they will be thrown out of the competition.

Portsmouth may not be able to pay their players this month. The club is attempting to obtain £900,000 from Inter Milan which is owed as part of the transfer of Sulley Muntari. He moved to Inter three years ago but a further sum of €1m was due when he had made 80 appearances in all competitions.
Inter Milan argued that the debt should be paid direct to Udinese who were owed £2.7m by Portsmouth. Udinese have since recovered their money in full from the Premier League. The FA have intervened with their Italian counterparts, but to no avail.
Portsmouth will get some clash flow from the home match against Watford on Saturday, but then do not have a home game at Fratton Park until 30th October. They also face a demand by Spurs to pay back £1m owed on a transfer that never happened when goalkeeper Asmir Begovic moved to Stoke City instead.
