It would seem likely that they will increase again when the new broadcasting deal cuts in next season.

The biggest spenders were:

  • Liverpool £14.3m (down by £7,000)
  • Manchester United £13.8m (up by £5.9m)
  • Manchester City £12.4m
  • Chelsea £12m (down by £4.8m)
  • Arsenal £11.9m (up by £7.6m)
  • West Ham £7m
  • Tottenham Hotspur £6m (down by £5m)

This is, of course, pretty much a roll call of top clubs.   Leaving aside newly promoted Bournemouth (£2.3m) and Watford (£1.6m), the lowest spenders were Norwich City (£2.5m).

In the Championship the biggest spenders were Cardiff City on £2.8m, Fulham on £2.7m and Reading and QPR both on £2.4m.   The lowest spenders were Rotherham United on £185k.

Lower down the Sky Bet Football League, nothing was spend by Accrington Stanley, Bury and Hartlepool.
