Chelsea put in planning application for Bridge

Chelsea have put in a planning application to redevelop their historic home at Stamford Bridge as a 60,000 seater stadium.   Over the years Chelsea have considered moving to alternative sites at Battersea and Earl’s Court.

However, their present location has signiificant advantages, even if the works involved are on a big scale. The planning process itself is likely to extend beyond the end of the season.

However, their present location has signiificant advantages, even if the works involved are on a big scale. The planning process itself is likely to extend beyond the end of the season.

Lack of ground capacity compared to other top clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester United has been a constraint on the club’s long-term development.

The £500m cost would be funded by Roman Abramovich, demonstrating his long-term commitment to the club.  It would also allow the club to become self-sustaining with the increased revenue from corporate boxes and other gate money.
