There has been a lot of criticisms of the ‘split’ in the league that comes in the last part of the season and also suggestions that the size of the league should be expanded, although that would spread the available resources even more thinly.   A more fundamental problem is the Old Firm duopoly but once something like that gets established it acquires its own momentum.    There is a similar situation in La Liga in Spain, although that competition is better resourced.
