Pompey administrator is optimistic

Portsmouth’s administrator, Andrew Andronikou, is much more optimistic about the future of the club than the tone of yesterday’s statement by Pompey.  Indeed, he criticised the statement as ‘premature’.   The club was just as likely to come out of administration as go into liquidation in the short term.

What is at issue with Sacha Gaydamak is an area of land surrounding Fratton Park.   The club cannot afford to make a single payment of £2.5m to Gaydamak.   However, Andronikou understands the former owner’s need for more assurances about  the security of his money.

Gaydamak will not be available for talks until this evening for religious reasons.   Clearly, the club is at some risk but it may have overdone the brinkmanship.   We may see a repeat of the situation with Crystal Palace over the summer when everything was sorted out at the last possible moment.
