New problems for Portsmouth

HM Revenue and Customs are launching an appeal against the process by which Portsmouth entered a Company Voluntary Arrangement.   They are alleging that there were irregularities in the calculation of the basis on which the vote was counted and they also have concerns about what they believe are irregularities in relation to insolvency rules.

This means that the club will stay in administration until an appeal is held which may not be until October or November.   It is thought unlikely that the Football League will impose an immediate points deduction.   However, the club will face a transfer embargo, although this could be relaxed if the squad fell below 20 players.
