Clarion call for action

A clarion call for action by Mark Field MP, the vice-chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on football.  On one level it’s an orthodox recital of the reformist consensus but it’s well written.   One point that is rarely made is that it is harder to reduce your debt in a time of low inflation because inflation of itself reduces a debt burden (always a temptation for governments).

As always, the solutions are less convincing than the analysis.  What would motivate the FA and the leagues to work effectively together?  Why should clubs that have a global brand status surrender it?  And what is the incentive to reduce player wages, given that top clubs, egged on by their fans, want the top players?
