New owners close for Portsmouth

Portsmouth may have new owners in the next seven to ten days according to administrator Andrew Andronikou.   The former owners, Convers Sports Initiatives, went into administration in November.

The prospective purchasers have not been linked with the club before and include one prominent position, but Andronikou would not give any more clues about their identity.  He was, however, confident that the club would escape a points deduction.

Andronikou told BBC Radio Solent,  ‘We are trying to scope out who they are and if they have the ambition and ability to take the club forward once and for all. We are looking to negotiate a contract and subject to that being okay we will put forward their application to the Football League who can conduct their own fit and proper person test and give us the thumbs up.’

‘Proof of funds has been done and we are fairly satisfied that they have the finances to take the club forward.’

Colin Farmery, editor of online fanzine True Blue Army, said the fans want to see stability at the club as soon as possible.  He said: ‘It’s in everyone’s interests for this to be resolved quickly.  We need to make sure the next owner coming in moves the club forward in the right way. If Andrew Andronikou can deliver that person, no one will be happier than me.’
