Hearts told to pay up

Hearts have been told by the Scottish Premier League (SPL) to pay the outstanding wages of 14 first team players by 11 January.   This month’s wages must be paid on the normal date of 16 January.  The club must pay interest on all overdue wages as well as paying the claimant’s legal expenses and the SPL’s costs for conducting the hearing.

If these requirements are not met there would be a further hearing and Hearts could be fined or given a points deduction.   Ultimately the club could be relegated or expelled from the league, but it is very unliklely that matters would go that far.

The club has already started to offload players to reduce the wage bill and more departures are expected in the January transfer window.
