Academic Sue Bridgwater has taken a close look at dismissals of managers in the past season.   Contrary to previous trends, the largest number of dismissals was in the Premiership, although the sacking rate was also high in the Championship.

Average tenure for dismissed managers in the Premier League was 1.22 years and 1.44 years overall. Although there were examples of subsequent improvements in performance, there were also counter examples.   Bridgwater emphasises that sacking a manager is no magic bullet, particularly given the cost and complexity of such decisions.

An interesting trend was the largest number of new appointments was drawn from staff already within the club, e.g., Norwich City compared with out of work managers in the country or managers from abroad.  If this trend continues, it could lead to greater continuity and stability in the future.
