Italian job at Dundee?

Former director Giovanni di Stefano is interested in owning Dundee.  The flamboyant Italian lawyer was last on the board in 2003 and thinks he has unfinished business at Dens Park.  He thinks that £300,000 to £500,000 could see the club through the season.

di Stefano sees no role for fans if he was to get involved again.   In his view the fans lack money, expertise or credibility which pretty much puts them in their place.   However, perhaps at least they can match di Stefano’s self-description of not being ‘completely stupid’.

At any rate some fans think there could be scope for a fans’ buy out and have consulted Stirling Albion about their experience with that route.   If the Coalition Government is seriously interested in mutual ownership of clubs, as stated in the Coalition Agreement, Dundee FC could offer an interesting test bed for an experiment.   Indeed, in prime minister’s questions today David Cameron responded positively to the creation of a fan-run club at Ilkeston Town.

Benefactor Calum Melville has now left the board at Dundee and chief executive Iain McLean argues that the club’s board was naive and lost touch with reality given that there were only verbal assurances of continuing financial support from Melville.
