Way back in the 1950s some games were not played on a Saturday. It would not have been possible to complete the fixture list without some midweek games. For example, I can remember games being played on a Thursday afternoon to attract retail workers having their half day off because of ‘early closing’. Some non-league clubs even had distinctive Thursday teams.
