Bleak outlook at Dundee

After its last spell in administration, the club learned to cut its cloth according to its means.  Then two years ago benefactor Calum Melville appeared on the scene which has turned out to be a mixed blessing.  The club splashed out on players last season in the hope of getting promoted to the SPL, but it didn’t come off.

Dundee was once a more prosperous city than it is today when the jute and printing industries were at their height.  There is a lot of second generation unemployment in the city, although it does have two universities.

In any other business, two competitors in the same road would merge.  The two clubs had their origins in religious rivalries which no longer matter, but the passion of Dundee supporters for their club should not be doubted.  Hopefully, they can survive this crisis, although it may entail relegation to Division 2.
