Blackburn bidder gets more time

Ahsan Ali Syed has been given more time to examine the books of Blackburn Rovers.  His period of exclusivity has been extended.   Apparently due diligence has taken longer than expected, although why this should be the case is not entirely clear as it does not seem likely that there are hidden surprises in the club’s books.

Syed’s vehicle, Western Gulf Advisory, insist that they are committed to buying the club.  What is in some doubt, following a BBC investigation, is whether they have the funds to do so.

Manager Sam Allerdyce has expressed doubts about whether the takeover will go ahead.  Should Syed withdraw, there at least three other bidders waiting in the wings.  The most prominent of these has been Mumbai-based businessman Saurin Shah.  However, he has been unwilling to commit £250,000 to the due diligence process while Syed has the inside track.
