Wrexham AFC have dismissed fears that they may be booted out of the Football Conference tomorrow. With their fingers burnt by the Rushden & Diamonds episode, the league are demanding a £250,000 security bond. They also want proof that all previous creditors have been paid in full and want to see a detailed business plan explaining how the club will pay their way. If they can’t satisfy the Conference that they can remain solvent, expulsion could follow on Monday.
The first piece in the rescue jigsaw is in place after the £1.8m sale of the Racecourse Ground to Glyndwr University. However, the players have still not been paid and a takeover by the club’s Supporters’ Trust is at least a fortnight away.
The view being taken by Wrexham’s Supporters’ Trust is that the club has already dealt with three of the four points that the Conference has made. What remains to be seen is whether 75 per cent will be enough for the league. However with the season kicking off on Saturday the league will not want to play with one club short if it can be avoided.
