What do fans think about the Olympic Stadium?

Earlier this week a group of Olympian athletes, including Kelly Holmes, issued an open letter making the case for the running track to be retained at the Olympic Stadium after 2012.   This was indeed the original plan for a legacy stadium, but football would generate bigger revenues and athletics tracks and football do not always necessarily go well together.

West Ham’s plans for the stadium would retain the running track while those of the other preferred bidder, Tottenham Hotspur, would not.    There is more organised opposition to the move among Spurs supporters, although some West Ham fans are not happy about the idea of leaving the Boleyn Ground.   There has always been some doubt about whether it is more than a Plan B for Spurs which they have used to gain more leverage over planning authorities in relation to the re-development of White Hart Lane.

Now the Football Supporters’ Federation has launched a consultation to find out what the fans of the affected clubs think.  One good point they make is that this should include Leyton Orient given that their ground is close to the Olympic Stadium.    Being one of London’s smaller clubs is not always an enviable situation, although it doesn’t dent the enthusiasm of Orient’s loyal supporters.
