We all know that the social medium Twitter is becoming more important, but I cannot recall anyone making an offer to invest in a football club via a tweet before. But this is what Malaysian entrepreneur Tony Fernandes did yesterday, overshadowing Sam Allerdyce’s first day at Upton Park.. It is thought that Fernandes was interested in the 35 per cent stake formerly held by CB Holdings.

West Ham’s financial situation is such that a new investor should in principle be welcome. However, the owners have emphatically rejected the bid describing it as an unhelpful distraction.
Although the way in which the bid was announced was unusual, Fernandes seems to be serious. He has hired Peter Kenyon to advise him. Kenyon was formerly at Manchester United and Chelsea, but now heads up the international sports division of the Hollywood-based Creative Arts Agency.
Fernandes did say that he was interested in buying Norwich City last week. However, the owner of Team Lotus in Formula One does claim to be a lifelong fan of the Hammers.
