Vaughan is not involved at Stockport

The new owners of Stockport County are yet to be revealed.   Unsubstantiated rumours have been circulating that disgraced former Chester City owner Steven Vaughan is involved.   Some tenuous links between him and consortium spokesman Tony Evans may have led to the rumours.   Evans is a consultant for GT Law the Liverpool insurance claims specialists who have just signed a shirt sponsorship deal for Stockport.   In May they also agreed to sponsor Liverpool boxer Rocky Fielding who is part of a stable managed by Vaughan.

Evans has admitted that Vaughan is a friend, but said he was not involved in the takeover which is not altogether surprising given that he is serving a 15-month prison sentence for GBH.   Evans made no reference in his press conference last week to Steven Vaughn Jnr. who has been looking after his father’s business interests while he is out of circulation.

Stockport have received a welcome financial boost after their former winger Anthony Pilkington joined Norwich from Huddersfield in a £2m deal.   As part of a selling on clause, the Hatters are due 20 per cent of any profit over £500,000, giving them a useful sum of £300,000.
