Unhappy days at Orient

Last season Leyton Orient were contenders for promotion.   This year they are bottom of League 1.  The Italian takeover of the club does not seem to have worked well.  Even team talks are being given in Italian.

In one bizarre development, the club has been given its own reality television show in Italy which could lead to a player contract.   Owner Francesco Becchetti thinks it will raise the profile of the club and perhaps produce good players.

With all due respect to Orient, who are a great club with loyal fans, I can’t see them winning many followers in Rome or Milan, nor does it seem to be a reliable way of identifying good players.

Morale is low and one issue seems to have been that the wage structure has been blown out of the water. Before the takeover no player was on more than £2.5k a week.   Some players are now receiving £7.5k.

In addition, Orient face the challenge of competing against West Ham when they move to the nearby Olympic Stadium in 2016.
