The board’s position was that the plan would have meant £140,000 of unsold shares being handed over to the Supporters’ Trust for free, something that could have led to a legal challenge from shareholders.
The club has been homeless since their ground was sold to developers in 2013. The club is currently losing around £120,000 a year and the chairman has admitted that it could fold within three years.
Given its size and relative prosperity, Worcester should be able to support a club in the top flight of the non-league pyramid. The population is approximately 100,000, although presumably some football fans support Birmingham clubs.
