Situated on the outer reaches of the District Line, it is the result of a series of mergers. Dagenham and Redbridge Forest merged in 1992. Redbridge Forest was the result of a merger of three of the most famous clubs in the amateur game: Ilford, Leytonstone and Walthamstow Avenue. Some West Ham fans treat the Daggers as a second club.
There are three bidders for the club, one of whom is unidentified. The club has been relegated with debts, and a sale is the only way forward.
The favourite buyer is ‘local boy made good’ Glenn Tamplin. He has a certified net worth of £45m. At gthe age of 16 he unsuccessfully trialed for the club. An offer of investment of £1.25m over five years has been made. It is now being considered by members.
The main alternative is a consortium led by former Daggers defender Lee Goodwin.
