A third director has quit the board at Rangers, less than two weeks ahead of a crucial annual meeting when the cash squeezed club will seek to raise more funds.

A third director has quit the board at Rangers, less than two weeks ahead of a crucial annual meeting when the cash squeezed club will seek to raise more funds.

The club said that Norman Crighton had left with immediate effect. Crighton joined last November to take charge of an “investment committee” at the club and it is unclear why he is leaving his post. He follows financial consultant Philip Nash and ex-chief executive Graham Wallace, who left in October.

Their departures strengthened the position of Newcastle United owner and Rangers shareholder Mike Ashley who had called for their removal.
