Nevertheless, today’s Championship play off game will give either Middlesbrough or Norwich City access to the enhanced wealth of the Premier League, although the new broadcasting deal does not cut in right away.  However, if the promoted team is immediately relegated, it will still benefit from enhanced parachute payments.

Middlesbrough have not received parachute payments for two years, but the Canaries would still receive £20m next year.  Hence, if Norwich win, the Premier League will save a substantial amount of money.
