Owner Peter Coates has pumped £100m into the club.  Financially it has gone through three phases: substantial owner funding; a move to sustainability; and spending based on TV money.  £51m was spent on transfers in 2015/16.

Revenue went through the £100m barrier in 2015/16 and a modest profit has been made in the last three years.  The club is punching above its weight as it ranks 16th in the Premier League in terms of revenue. Although it has been managed prudently, the wages to turnover ratio is high at 79 per cent.

Revenue growth is virtually all down to television money, but there are signs that the club is getting its act together on the commercial side, although it can never match more glamorous clubs located in London or Manchester.
