Russian bid for Charlton?

It is being reported that a Russian group of investors want to buy Charlton, with co-owners Tony Jimenez and Michael Slater considering selling the Championship club to allow new money to fuel a fresh promotion push.

Jimenez, the club’s majority shareholder, is understood to have held talks with the consortium, who have business interests in Cyprus, where Jimenez owns property and a home near Lacarna.

In its last financial year the club lost £7.5m and is in need of further investment if it is to mount any kind of promotion challenge.

A report of interest last year involving Turkish conglomerate Koc Industries came to nothing.

The latest information suggests that the Russian deal has also fallen through.
