Ridsdale forecasts doom and gloom for Everton

These comments by Peter Ridsdale about Everton are straight from the daft comments department and I only reproduce them because there are some interesting observations by supporters of the Toffees on the link.   Relegation would be challenging for Everton, as it is for most big clubs, but whatever else you say about the club they have shown a capacity for long-term survival in the top flight.

Ridsdale reckons that only Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion have a sustainable business model.   That overlooks Manchester United and Arsenal for a start and I would certainly add Spurs to the list and other less glamorous clubs like Stoke City.

In their comments Toffees supporters argue that the present television revenue model is not sustainable.   I don’t think Sky revenues are going to fall as much as they forecast and they overlook the increasingly important role of overseas television revenues.   There might be circumstances in which it would be advantageous for Manchester United to go it alone, but whether they would be allowed to is another matter.
