Ricoh sold to Wasps

Coventry City Council have unanimously approved the sale of the operating company of the Ricoh Arena, Arena Coventry Limited, to Wasps rugby club.   The council will retain the freehold, but the rugby club will have a 250 year lease.

Coventry City Council have unanimously approved the sale of the operating company of the Ricoh Arena, Arena Coventry Limited, to Wasps rugby club.   The council will retain the freehold, but the rugby club will have a 250 year lease.

This was in spite of an appeal by the chairman of Coventry City Football Club to delay the decision. The Sky Blues have a two year rental agreement on the arena, what happens after that remains to be seen, but it would be in the interests of the rugby club to keep them as tenants.  There are sometimes concerns that playing rugby on a pitch can undermine its readiness for football.

  1. coventry city fc

mr tim fisher continues to complain that for ccfc to be sucessful he “must have all the revenue streams that come from owning the stadium ” .he is in my mind talking absoloute nonsense.  He talks about FFP  that restricts  him from spending no more than 60% of a clubs income on players salaries. In my opinion owners/chairmen should be trying to run clubs with only 50% of their income on wages ! !.As ccfc are still one of the top paying clubs in this division ,let mr fisher argue his point with the majority of chairmen in this league who survive on far less income than he has ! !. Perhaps Mr Fisher could at the end of the season have the two tables alongside each other , one the end of season league position, and the other the table of clubs wages paid out .I am pretty confident ccfc would be in the top 25% on the wages front.Therfore to be quite blunt , one should reflect the other. If it does not it just exempifies the underperformance of the club.bob/coventry.
