QPR ready to take Football League to court

The Football League is now examining the accounts submitted by Championship clubs to see if they exceeded the allowable loss limit of £8m (some expenditure is excluded such as youth development).   The League is expected to announce its findings in the next few weeks to ensure that any appeals can be held before the transfer window opens on January 1st.

QPR are the club at greatest risk.   If they repeated the 2012-13 loss of £65.7m, they could be in for a fine of £54m.   That is unlikely, but the fine could still be substantial.   If they don’t pay up, and are relegated from the Premier League, the Football League have threatened to send them to the Vanarma Conference. Unsurprisingly, QPR are preparing a legal challenge and they could well have a case.

Four clubs could face a transfer ban: Bolton, Blackburn, Nottingham Forest and Leeds.    Clubs would still be able to sign players on a ‘one in, one out’ basis provided that they have fewer than 24 registered players and the incoming player has wages that are less than 75 per cent of those of the outgoing player.
