Premier League to act on away ticket prices?

It appears that, following sustained pressure by fans, the Premier League may be prepared to take broader action than it has done so far on away ticket prices.

The latest fans to be feel aggrieved are from Sunderland who discovered that they would have to pay £47 or £50 for seats in the away end at Chelsea.   When you factor in the cost of travel from Sunderland, and the fact that the game is in the run up to Christmas, you can understand why they feel upset.   Sunderland is not a high wage area, certainly compared with Kensington & Chelsea.

The Premier League is not short of money, but one would need to devise a scheme that satisfied fans without unduly penalising club income.   For their part, away fans argue that they are an essential part of a game’s atmosphere which makes it more attractive as television viewing.
