One in 12 season ticketholders now sharing to keep costs down

Fans of Premier League football clubs are increasingly sharing the costs of season tickets, according to a new survey by Virgin Money that covered 3,900 responses.

One in eight Man U supporters said they shared their ticket with mates, whilst one in 11 fans of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham admitted sharing tickets. Only one in
20 Chelsea fans said they did so – as they waved their wads at anyone who walked by…

Cherries recover from financial problems

AFC Bournemouth are recovering from their financial problems.  They lost in excess of £1.5m in the year before the new management team took over, but that was down to £200,000 in the following year.  Their transfers are still under supervision from the Football League, but they allowed a loan from Spurs to go ahead which suggests they are happy with the way things are going.  Certainly, the production of audited accounts seems to be an improvement on previous practice.

FC United plan own stadium

FC United, the club founded by Manchester United fans, are going ahead with plans to build their own stadium.   The team currently plays at Bury’s ground where they attract crowds of more than 2,000.   The stadium will have a 5,000 capacity and cost £3.5m.  It will be located in the Newton Heath area where Manchester United originated.  Most of the money will be raised through a community share fund which will offer a financial return, of up to 2 per cent above base ra

Wings deducted points over tax debt

Blue Square Bet South side Welling have been deducted five points after they provided incorrect financial information to the league about the extent of their debt to the taxman.   The club have paid off £45,000 of a £90,000 debt and have until December 1st to pay the rest.   If they fail to do so, they will become the latest non-league club to close.


Hoped-for investment in the club failed to materialise.   However, the Conference have released the £8,000 solidarity money they held back from the club.
