Sheffield Wednesday fans are concerned about the financial situation of their club and one of them has contacted us with the following message:

Our club has been in decline now for well over a decade. We are now on the brink of administration and unless outside investment can be found, this could happen within weeks.

In 2005 our club took the largest ever single following to the Millenium Stadium. Well over 40,000 Sheffield Wednesday fans attended our League One play off final with Hartlepool. This demonstrates the strength of our overall fanbase. Unfortunately, this fanbase has become largely disenfranchised and are therefore unaware of why our club is in the extremely precarious position it finds itself today. We need to inform this fanbase how close we are to collapse before it’s too late. Only then can we really apply pressure to our current board, who we believe are putting their own interests above that of our club.

They have produced a document entitled ‘The Rise and Fall of SWFC’ which can be read here.

Their message to us continues, ‘Clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United regularly receive media attention with regards to their struggles against their current ownership, but, because of our lowly position within the football pyramid we are struggling to raise awareness. Therefore we are finding it difficult to put pressure on our inept board. Please believe me – our position is far more perilous than either of these clubs.’
