North-west is capital of football debt

Half of the £2.8bn debt in English football is located in the north-west and £1bn of that belongs to Liverpool and Manchester United.   However, although Manchester United have the greater level of debt, Liverpool have the more immediate problems as their debt is more short-term.  Moreover, Liverpool badly need to built a new stadium to close the gap between the £42.5m of gate money they earn and the £108.8m secured at Old Trafford, almost two-and-a-half times as much.   Read more about the financial contrast between the two clubs in this interesting analysis.
