Newcastle deny takeover talk

Newcastle United have denied reports that they are engaged in discussions about a takeover bid by former chairman Freddy Shepherd.   Of course what they have said is that they have had no contact or talks with Shepherd which is not to say that they wouldn’t talk if an approach was made.  Shepherd has not confirmed the stories, but he has not totally denied them.

The club is not for sale, but reports suggest that Shepherd and his consortiuim would wipe out the club’s £90m debt in preparation for the Uefa financial fair play regulations.   The Ashley regime has not been popular at St.James’s Park but the club is now in the Premiership and it is difficult to believe that Toon fans would welcome back Shepherd.
