York borrowed the money to purchase thier Bootham Crescent ground and will need either to repay this sum or convert it to a grant by September 2013.

If York City FC’s application for a new 6,000-seater ground is unsuccessful, then the club will have to sell Bootham Crescent to raise the cash. The club would then have to go part-time which would hit support levels as well as commercial and sponsorship income. It would probably put paid to York’s hopes of a return to the Football League.
