New bid for Portsmouth

A new bid to acquire Portsmouth FC has been submitted by former Watford owner Laurence Bassini.   However, it has come late in the day and is not seen as a ‘game changer’.

The two front runners remain Balram Chainrai’s Portpin Group and the Portsmouth Supporters’ Trust. They have been given an extension by the administrator while they undergo the Football League’s fit and proper person test.   The football authorities are concerned about how the Supporters’ Trust would deal with the £8m pledged to former players, while they are concerned about the amount of debt Portpin would carry over.

Sulaiman Al Fahim has still not provided proof of funds by depositing them in a UK bank and his intervention is increasingly looking less serious.   One wonders why people make unsupported bids of this kind.   Perhaps they think that any publicity is good publicity.

Balram Chainrai has issued a statement about his plans for the club which despite its considerable length is remarkably lacking in substance.
