New bid for fan ownership at Blackburn

The decision taken by Blackburn Rovers owners Venky’s to give controversial manager Steve Kean the vote of confidence has given added significance to developments in the structure of fans’ trusts at Ewood Park.   The decision on Kean is reported to have ‘disgusted’ some Rovers supporters, but his position remains ‘under review’ and hence is far from secure.

Two supporters groups, the Blackburn Rovers Supporters Investment Trust  (BRIST)and Blackburn Rovers Supporters Trust have joined forces.    They have the common aim of securing control at Ewood Park.

Later in the year there will be a share raising plan modelled on the ‘pledge scheme’ launched by BRIST earlier this year.   This scheme has already seen almost £3m pledged by supporters wanting to buy a £1,000 share in a new ownership structure.   The target is to raise £10m.

If they do succeed in securing control, Rovers would be the biggest club under fan ownership and certainly the only one to have held the Premiership title.
