Professor Simon Chadwick takes a look at the thorny issue of which is the biggest league in European football.   Although the conclusions are not surprising, the evidence and its appraisal are interesting.

He uses a number of criteria such as money, trophies and crowds.   Not surprisingly, he comes to the conclusion that no one league is dominant, but the three leading ones are in England, Germany and Spain.  Italy’s Serie A is just about hanging in there and France’s Ligue 1 is some way off the pace.
