Millwall chairman John Berylson has denied that he is about to sell the club to former QPR owner Gianni Paladini. The club issued a statement yesterday denying a story in The Sun that Paladini had lodged a £16million takeover bid.

Berylson said in a statement from the club: ‘I have absolutely to interest in selling Millwall to Mr Paladini, who I have never even met nor have any intention of meeting, or anyone else.’

Former agent Paladini, who brought Fabrizio Ravanelli, Benito Carbone and Juninho to England, held the reins at Loftus Road for five years from 2006. He had a huge row with then-manager Holloway in 2006, after which the Bristolian was sent home on gardening leave. That June Holloway left to become manager of Plymouth Argyle, then in the second tier.

Paladini quit as Rangers chairman in 2011 and has been seen at The Den on several occasions since then.
