Mancini: give me the moolah

I’m sure the cultured Italian didn’t put it quite like that.   However, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini does fear that Manchester City could suffer a similar fate to Tottenham Hotspur if they fail to assemble a squad in the summer that is capable of juggling the demands of playing in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Khaldoon al-Mubarak, the City chairman, warned this week that there would be no huge outlay in the transfer market this summer.   Mancini believes that the club needs to invest and this could set him on a collision course with the club hierachy.

The challenge for City is to comply with Uefa’s financial fair play rules.   Uefa would no doubt like to make an example of one Barclays Premier League Club and City would be a convenient target for the European fooball authorities who resent the big spending habits of English clubs.
