The Shropshire border town of Ludlow is known for its mangnificent castle, attractive streets and fine restaurants. Its football club, Ludlow Town, has gone into receivership owing £400,000 which is a lot of money for a club in the lower reaches of the non-league system.

At one time West Midlands Regional League champions, the club dropped down into the Shropshire County League because of financial problems. However, they hope to field a team in the new Mercian League which will replace the County League.
All the club’s assets including the SBS Stadium and its all weather pitche are currently in the hands of receivers Begbies Traynor. A new club, Ludlow Stadium Facilities Limited, has been formed and will lease the ground until it has been sold.
The survival of the orginal football club had depended on a land sale deal with Shropshire County Coiuncil but it fell apart over sell on clauses which specified that a previous landowner would receive a significant slice of any sale.
