Liverpool sold to Red Sox

Radio 5 is reporting that Liverpool FC has been sold to the company that owns the Boston Red Sox and Sky is carrying a similar story.   The sale in principle is confirmed in a carrying a similar story.   The sale in principle is confirmed in a statement by Martin Broughton on the Liverpool web site in which he says how impressed he has been by the achievements of New England Sports Ventures and their vision for Liverpool.

It is admitted that the sale will be subject to a legal challenge by the current owners who are dissatisfied with the price being offered.   Martin Broughton says that he is disappointed with their stance.   The sale would also require Premier League approval, but the prospective owners are likely to be able to satisfy the means test.

So it looks as if baseball and football will come together and without Liverpool suffering a points deduction through having to go into administration to get rid of the current owners.   It will, however, remain an American-owned club.
