Leeds United have held crisis talks with both GFH Capital and Massimo Cellino as doubts persist about whether the club can meet this month’s wage bill,    Manager Brian McDermott has said that the uncertainty is starting to affect player morale.

According to Radio 5, non-playing staff have been paid this month’s wages, but players have not been paid.    However, they have agreed to defer part of their wages for March and the Professional Footballers’ Association says that they are happy with that.

Leeds believe that the takeover agreement with Cellino’s company commits him to funding the club for six months, but he is understandably reluctant to accept that with losses running at £1m a month.

The Football League have said that they will hear Cellino’s appeal against disqualification from ownership expeditiously, but there is doubt about whether the outcome will change.   Cellino could then challenge their procedures through the courts, but that would take time the club doesn’t have.
