As we have been argued before it is non-league clubs that have taken the hardest hit in the recession. An example is former Southern League club Racing Club Warwick now playing in the sixth tier of the non-league pyramid in the Midland Combination. Last season Warwick District Council had to step in to save the debt-ridden club from extinction and allowing them to fulfill their fixtures. Quite what happened to the selling on fees from their former goalkeeper, Ben Foster, now an England prospect, is not known.

Last season Warwick District Council had to step in to save the debt-ridden club from extinction and allowing them to fulfill their fixtures. Quite what happened to the selling on fees from their former goalkeeper, Ben Foster, now an England prospect, is not known. Three prospective new owners are said to be interested in taking up the lease of the Townsend Meadow ground which is located by Warwick racecourse. However, last week the club were unable to find the £200 to pay the squad their travelling expenses and joint manager Mark Fenemore walked out. The former supremo told the Leamington Spa Courier, ‘I’ve had enough. I’ve effectively been the chairman, secretary and ball boy – producing the programme, updating the website, dealing with paperwork, sweeping the dressing rooms, marking up the technical ones, providing the match balls and collecting the lost ones.’ It’s light years away from the Premiership.
