Heaney pulls out at Plymouth Argyle

After five months when the money was supposedly available but never appeared, property developer and Truro City owner Kevin Heaney has pulled out of his bid to take Plymouth Argyle out of administration.   He blamed banks for being unwilling to lend to property developers and football clubs, but it is not surprising that they would regard that as a toxic combination in the current financial climate.

A motley crew of would be investors has now appeared across the horizon, including the usual mystery Middle Eastern investors and Terry Venables.    Fans are hoping that local businessman James Brent will acquire the club and he has promised a decision by Friday after talking to creditors and the Professional Footballers’ Association.

One of the strangest bids comes from the former bodyguard of Michael Jackson who lives near Plymouth.   He proposes to put together a consortium of associates of the singer and to bring in psychic Uri Geller as an advisor.   They intend to make Plymouth a big hitting Premiership club.

Plymouth fans have no need of such grandiose plans with little substance.   What they need is an experienced businessman with local knowledge who can consolidate the club in League 2 and then take it forward.   James Brent is such a person.
