Grays in crisis

Former Conferences side Grays Athletic are in crisis as they fight for their place in the Ryman League.  The 120-year club felt it could no longer carry on in the Conference after their ground was sold from under them.   The Football Association took their resignation as one from all football, but on appeal they won a place in the Step 3 Ryman (Isthmian) League.

The Ryman expelled them from their competition last week after they concluded that a groundshare with East Thurrock United had not been confiirmed.   The Blues, managed by Julian Dicks, are hoping that their solicitors can convince Isthmian officials that their groundshare agreement is legally binding.

If they have to fall back into Step 5 in the form of the Essex Senior League, there are concerns that they may not be able to survive at that level.   It’s a big fall for a club that won the FA Trophy in 2005 and 2006.
