Free travel for away fans?

Stoke City have come up with a proposal to provide free travel to away fans in the Premier League.  It probably won’t go anywhere because of the cost per club (£500,000 – £800,000) and the fact that attendances are not under great pressure.

It also overlooks the fact that a lot of ‘away’ fans don’t live in their home area.   For example, an away match in London can attract fans who now live there or in the south-east.

The real constraint on fans is ticket prices rather than travel and here Stoke suggest an alternative in terms of pricing away tickets no higher than the cheapest away game of the season.
