Hearts have managed to stave off a winding up order brought by HM Revenue and Customs by paying £500,000 into court.   However, the financial troubles of the club continue.   Players have once again not been paid on time with late payments overdue.

However, just as players were preparing to send a letter of complaint to SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster with the possibility of invoking Fifa breach of contract causes, the money which should have been paid on 16th October came through.

Given their debts of around £30m the club is likely to stage a fire sale of players in the January transfer window.   However, that will not overcome their underlying problems which in part reflect the overall financial state of Scottish football.   Owner Vladimir Romanov has indicated that he may not be willing to continue to plough money into the club.-
