FC United, the club now in the Unibond Premier League that was formed when the Glazers took over Manchester United, are planning to develop a 5,000-capacity stadium at their spiritual home at Newton Heath within the next three years. They have averaged around 2,000 supporters at Bury’s Gigg Lane ground this season.

The stadium project iis based on developing the existing Manchester council-owned Ten Acres Lane sports centre and will cost £3.5m. Part of that the club hope to raise through a community share issue. FC United have already raised £300,000 in cash with a further £1.5m coming from a share issue in partnership with Co-operatives UK.. A stadium of the size planned is thought to be needed as the club’s aim is to progress to the Conference.
