End game at Argyle

James Brent’s Akkeron group are now in pole position to acquire Plymouth Argyle with the administrators clearly favouring his offer.    South-east based property developer Paul Buttivant is still interested, having been eyeing the club since 2005, but he will have to make a formal offer soon if he is to remain in the frame.

Brent would buy Home Park and lease it back to the club.   He would also develop the land around the ground, as would Buttivant.

Brent has made it clear that he is going to run the club as a self-sustaining business.   He commented, ‘What I am not going to do is to poor a fortune into the club beyond the initial investment; it is incredibly bad for football clubs if they become dependent on a benefactor.  What we need to do is to cut the cost base down to a level that is sustainable.’

At least there will be no statues in bad taste with no real connection with the club.   Argyle fans will breathe a big sigh of relief when the deal is done and dusted.
