Bernie Ecclestone has taken a controlling 62 per cent stake in Queen’s Park Rangers. He has taken over most of the shares held by Flavio Briatore with whom he led a takeover of the Super Hoops in 2007. The Mittal family, steel billionaires from India, have a 20 per cent stake. Their representative, Amit Bhatia, is vice-chairman and actively involved on a day-to-day basis.

The 80-year old Ecclestone is primarily interested in Formula One and has little interest in football, but this may be a good thing for stability at the club which went through nine managers in three years including five last season. Briatore was known to interest himself in players and tactics, leading to a perception that the owners had more money than sense.
Ecclestone has made it clear that he is not going to splash the cash, but also that he is happy to support manager Neil Warnock who has steered the club into a table topping position in the Championship. Warnock is unlikely to suffer the fate of Sam Allardyce at Blackburn who apparently did not convey the right image for a white meat products firm.
